12 page zine
I am currently working on a zine project for Nick, called ‘The Creatures of 110 Indian Hill Rd.’ I really like this format of comic-journaling in the morning, and then transitioning to strucutred projects . The journaling allows me to get in touch with my soul, to check the temperature, to assess the state of the sea before setting sail for the day. But on its own, it’s insufficient, it doesn’t make me grow. Only through structured projects --with a script, milestones, deadlines-- do I actually keep the excitement of the morning going throughout the day. Journaling is a great practice, but it’s the warm up; the actual work begins when I start planning, doing, and publishing.
I also like this format of having a visual (or several) and a little blurb of text. It allows me to go deeper, to contextualize, and it gets me writing. I’ve also been using the tiny 4” x 4” booklets that Nick got for his project; they’re the perfect zine planning tool, and I can put them in my Patagonia waistbag (belt bag? hip pack?) with a Lamy, which is all I really need, frankly.
