Making art
I have slowly been connecting this question to my desire to ‘be still’ as Nick called it yesterday, my desire to always say ‘no’ to social events, to partying, to late nights (a desire I never act upon), which is really just a desire to do the work. To make art. To create. And to sustain my body and mind so that I can do just that. That’s all I ever want do to: to work, and when I do not work, to refill the well with soul-nourishing activities (walking, exercising, eating well, cleaning, reading, seeing art, exploring, traveling, contemplating, meditating, laughing, talking) so that I can go back to the studio and keep working.
The work of the artist Jacob Berendes was on sale at the gallery we went to yesterday --a weirdly endearing and troubling stuffed animal I immediately fell in love with. The little plaque with the artist intro said that the piece was part of a project in which Jacob made one stuffed animal every day for a year. The project is documented on his website and on Instagram under the name ‘Animal Year.’ Jacob also has a website that is ‘also a castle’ (dixit the artist). It really is. And I love it.
Nightly update: I’ve added a page from my “creatures of 110 Indian Hill Rd” notebook, with a detail from the neighbor’s house, and a quick sketch of the book Draw Your World by Samantha Dion Baker. I’m really into it, it’s really inspiring, and strengthen my intuition to take as many Domestika courses as I can.
