So I started this project which sometimes I call the Mystical Fox, and sometimes the Weekly Plotted Zine (or WPZ), sometimes the Black Book, and sometimes the Black Zine, sometimes the Seattle Stories... I guess I just need to get clear on what it is that I want to create here.
Below are a few pages from the Keynote version of that project in the form of Mystical Fox daily comic, inspired by John Porcellino’s King-Cat. I removed all the entries that mentioned people and focused instead on what is really troubling me, which isn’t really boy trouble or advising tension but rather what is the next direction I want to give to my life? And on Thursday, a week after I broke up with N., I start realizing: maybe actually I just need to make the mystical thing my thing. Not just my private thing but my career thing. What would it look like?
And after my advising meeting on Friday, I felt a little lost as to how exactly I could explain the concept of the “subject” and make it seem relevant, and N. suggested: why don’t you make it on the mystical?
And yes, this is what I need to do. I need to make my interest in accessing the mystical an expertise and not a hobby. Because it is not. The poetic, the symbolic, the mystical, the imagination, the fictional –this is where I will always be more at home. Yet here I am, following that thread brought me to engineering, and while I can’t see yet how they are related, I need to do the work that will connect them.
