Drawing Project
Interpretation Booklet
Visual Diary

Lots to tallk about this week, week 10 of the year, so a fifth of the way in. What has been accomplished so far?

  • I moved and made a new cocoon for myself and Sam.
  • I finished my first tufted pieces.
  • I took a first stab at the interpretation booklet.
  • I’ve discovered that I need to draw A LOT MORE in order to become an artist.
  • I’ve renewed with my love of paper objects and journals, as well as my Manifesting Self.

Here’s what needs to happen now.

Interpretation Booklets
I think those are in fact the cornerstone of my dissertation work. I need to outline my chapters and see what I can reuse. And now that I am making things, I need to focus on my concepts and USE THE BOOKLETS as sites of interpretative engagement and reflection. I need to make a million of these.

Zines
Also need to make a million of these. The drawing research projects and the zines should be the same, because 1. I’ll only really learn if I need to make it polished and, 2. the type of drawing I care about is always in service of a narrative. I also want to learn about lettering and composition, so the zine format is perfect.

Stamps
This is a way to follow paloma the peach’s advice on fan art and copying (or studying artists) while also making a buck. Starting the business. Sharing things. Learning all the nuances of digital medial.

Visual Diary
It’s a fantastic lab, playground and space to record, experiment and play. It’s just not enough on its own.

Classes and YouTube Videos

Notes to Self

[Talk about the interpretation booklet --why did it work? Because the composition and the entries were tackled as “projects,”  as finished products to be shared rather than as drafts like I usually do.]
[analyze your diary entries]
[also: the 3 lists: zines, stamps and research projects/drawing courses]
[the problems: prioritizing instead domestic, physical and social wellbeing. Where can I cut? How can I be more focused?]
[realization: pursuing 3 tracks in parallel. 1. Daily drawing practice based on courses, videos, exercises and research project. Just sketchbook time. 2. Stamp making. researching cool existing design and vectorizing them, learning composition, etc. 3. Zines. Write down the scripts of your artist-art business life! Write down the scripts of your successful dissertation! Write down letters to friends! Letters to the Universe! Gratitude letters!]
